ANGELA CANDELA
SOPRANO
Recognized as a “versatile artist” with “a lovely voice” graced with a “satin legato” by Voce di Meche, soprano Angela Candela captivates audiences with her ability to “lose herself in any one of a number of characters.”
This season, Angela makes her much-anticipated debut with the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra during their 80th Anniversary season bringing to life such heroines as Violetta (La Traviata), Mimi (La boheme) and Rusalka (Rusalka).
In her 2018-2019 season, Angela appeared dually with the Institut Canadien d’Art Vocal in Montreal, Canada performing in scenes from Don Giovanni as Donna Elvira and La finta giardiniera as Arminda and with the International Vocal Arts Institute in New York City as Lisette in La rondine. She was also thrilled to make her debut with the Gateway Classical Music Society and the Gateway Orchestra at St. Philip’s in the fall performing excerpts of La boheme and Les contes d’Hoffmann. Angela was a Philadelphia Regional Finals Participant in the Talents of the World Competition and a semifinal participant of the John Alexander National Voice Competition, sponsored by Mississippi Opera.
During the 2017-2018 season, international audiences were treated to a wide array of French and Italian repertoire when Angela was invited to join Classic Lyric Arts in the Perigord region of Bordeaux and in Novafeltria, Emilia-Romagna; Alice (Falstaff), Manon (Manon), Alexina (Le roi malgre lui), and Helene (Veronique) are just a few of the ladies she got to lose herself in.
A flexible artist with a love of exploring different ways to stretch herself creatively, she had the privilege of working on Adina (L’elisir d’amore) during her 2016-2017 season with Martina Arroyo as part of her Role Preparation Course before re-visiting Adina with Respiro Opera NYC later that season.
Dedicated to creating a healthy, artistic environment for young singers as well as nurturing young talent, she is the founder of the Underground Salon showcase series. Unveiled in February of 2019, the salons are a platform for singers to perform for audiences before the start of audition season each year, and help “explore what makes a performance worth savoring and a moment worth remembering.”
Angela holds degrees in Vocal Performance from both Manhattan School of Music, where she received her Master’s degree, and from the Catholic University of America’s Benjamin T. Rome School of Music.
